Hello everyone!
During this week, we dedicated a significant amount of time to analyzing and improving support for different languages in Classic Billiards, especially Arabic.
We have made significant progress with international character support, but we identified a specific limitation related to Arabic that we have not yet been able to completely resolve.
Classic Billiards was originally developed using Flash, a technology from many years ago. Since Flash is no longer supported by modern browsers, we currently use Ruffle to keep the game running.
Ruffle does an excellent job of recreating the old Flash environment, but it is still under development, and some features do not behave exactly as they would in a modern application.
Arabic presents an additional challenge because the language is written from right to left (RTL), and the visual shape of letters can also change depending on their position within a word.
This week, we performed several tests and adjustments to our chat system. We can now ensure that Arabic characters are correctly sent and received, but there are still situations where the Flash/Ruffle environment may display the letters in an incorrect order or visual form inside the game.
In other words: our server and chat system can receive the Arabic text correctly, but the way that text is rendered on screen by the Flash/Ruffle environment still has some limitations.
We do not want to implement a temporary workaround that fixes Arabic while potentially creating problems for other languages or affecting the stability of the chat.
For this reason, we will continue following Ruffle's development while also working on alternative solutions to provide proper Arabic support in the future.
Our goal is for players from every country to be able to use Classic Billiards normally, regardless of their language or alphabet.
A special thank you to our Arabic-speaking players who have been helping us test these improvements, and for your patience while we gradually modernize a game that was originally developed many years ago. 🌍🎱
